SQL Server 2025 preview debuts with Ubuntu 24.04 support and TLS 1.3 encryption for stronger security and Linux flexibility.

The 2012, 2014, and 2016 editions of the SQL Server are expected to break. While both 2014 and 2016 still remain in support, 2012 is out of support but will receive extended security updates.

Leon McCalla on the Microsoft Connect forum says that KB 2992611 breaks ODBC access in SQL Server 2008. Mike G on the Citrix forum reports that KB 2992611 breaks XML.
