U.S. immigration officials say they intend to deport Kilmar Abrego Garcia to Uganda, after he declined an offer to be deported to Costa Rica in exchange for remaining in jail and pleading guilty to human smuggling charges.

The federal government is trying to force Kilmar Abrego Garcia to accept a guilty plea or face deportation to Uganda, his attorneys claimed in a filing on Saturday.

Lawyers for Kilmar Abrego Garcia, the Maryland man who was wrongfully deported to an El Salvadorian prison in March, have accused the Trump Administration of trying to "coerce" their client to plead guilty to criminal charges of human trafficking or face deportation to Uganda, a country he has never been to.
